My Postcards Platinum c Web Application (version 6)

Composition features overview

Sound

Sound can be attached to your posty easily. By default *.mid format is supported, however you can use any sound file format and specify custom HTML tags for sound embedding.

New in version 6: ability to attach lyrics (or file with any content - plain text, HTML, XML, whatever) to a sound. Most requested usage - for songs with lyrics. All songs with lyrics in sample cardshop are marked by (*)

Sound preview button forces open a media player or plugin or special program on your computer dedicated to playing files of specified format. Most often it will be Windows Media Player.

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup.

Blurb

New in version 6: ability to add blurb (or file with any content - plain text, HTML, XML, whatever) to a picture. Most requested usage - for artwork copyright notices. If exists - a file with blurb is embedded into the resulting card automatically.

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup.

Caption

New in version 6: ability to add caption (or file with any content - plain text, HTML, XML, whatever) to a picture. Most requested usage - for artwork descriptions. If exists - a file with caption is embedded into the resulting card automatically.

Address Book

New in version 6: An address book is added as a part of member services. It has an intuitive interface and a fully customizable appearance. Give it a try.

The address book can be loaded at any point of the card composition process including error pages and multisend.

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup.

SSI support in templates

New in version 6: limited Server-Side Includes support. Here you see the same footer file embedded both in usual HTML pages and Platinum templates with a very similar command.

Only include directive is supported for including HTML files. This feature facilitates web project maintenance and is added by popular demand.

Font face selection

New in version 6: a dedicated tag for font face is added. If selected and used it forces the piece of code like face="Tahoma" to be added to appropriate places on cards.

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup.

Archive copy of a card

It is possible to send yourself an archive copy of a card. A separate notification email is sent to you in this case. A separate card datafile is created so you can "pick it up" without causing a pickup notice to be sent to you. You can also save this card for future viewing.

New in version 6: a notification mail template for this archive copy can be completely different from a regular notification. You can word the text accordingly. This would prevent the quite common question to webmasters: "why the card is sent to me when I sent it to someone else?"

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup.

Text message

Text message can be added to any type of cards. The size of text input is not limited. HTML tags are allowed, however for security reasons quotation marks and line breaks are replaced with special characters to prevent entering malicious scripts.

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup, however most probably you will want to include it in any composition page.

Pickup notice

Pickup notice is mailed to the sender by default when his posty is received for the first time. Practice shows that most senders prefer this option to be enabled. However pickup notice can be disabled either by webmaster (using hidden tag) or by sender.

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup.

Scheduled delivery

Posty can be created in advance and scheduled to be sent at later date. The exact number of days ahead is the configurable parameter set by a webmaster. The value can vary from 1 to 365 days. The longer period you specify the more disk space and filehandlers (inodes) you need to allocate for your cardshop. Optimal setting is 2-3 weeks.

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup.

Picture or animation

Main element of any posty is a picture (card) static or animated. Static pictures can be of any format rendered by browsers (Platinum does not limit image file extensions), most probably *.gif, *.jpg or *.png.

Animation can be referred as *.gif files or any multimedia objects, most common are flash movies or java applets. The portions of HTML code for flash movies or Java applets are stored in separate files and embedded into resulting posty automatically.

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup.

Stamps

Small "stamps" can be attached to posty. It is recommended that you create all stamps with the same horizontal and vertical dimensions to provide uniform card appearance.

This element is not mandatory in cardshop setup.

The poem text can be previewed from card composition page in a pop-up window or directly on a resulting card page before sending.

Text color
